Children and staff from Reception have recently visited Forge Mill Farm in West Bromwich. The outing related to Reception’s NICER Challenge of ‘A Real World’. While at the farm, the children saw lots of baby animals: lambs, calves, rabbits and piglets. The children were also treated to a tractor ride which turned out to be heaps of fun.

‘Family Fridays’ is a new initiative to help to develop and improve parent partnership in the EYFS department. Staff felt that a positive move towards home/school liaison was to help to encourage parents to become involved with what their children are learning in school. The programme was duly introduced and interest sheets have been sent home on a weekly basis; this allows the child and parent to voice an opinion on what topics could be covered on a Friday. One recent idea which a child suggested, was to make scarecrows; this has been the focus of the first three Family Friday sessions in RE. The child and their parent/carer have completed a task wheel, scarecrow design sheet and then had a go at making and naming their scarecrow followed by planting seeds in pots.

On Thursday 10th April, Reception very proudly received a sponsor photo and certificate for Lizzie and Gary Baarlow two sheep from the Bird and Animal Sanctuary Trust. The year group had decided that if enough money was raised from their social enterprise project; Pop-Up Café, they would like to adopt a sheep. In the end Reception raised enough money to have TWO sheep, RE have adopted Lizzie and RH have adopted Gary Baalow (the latter is not a typo).

Well done on achieving your goal and more! We look forward to more updates about Lizzie and Gary Baalow’s progress.
