Children and staff visited the Windmill Cafe on Monday 26th January. The purpose of the visit was to link in with their NICER challenge ‘A Real World’, with an emphasis on exploring the local community and cultures and to compare different settings.
The children were challenged to use their noticing torches and to talk about what they could see on their visit. They also used their senses to help them to describe aspects of their toast and to link in their phonic knowledge to various objects, sights and sounds around them.
Throughout the rest of the week the children were learning to write menus and sentences about what they saw. In addition to that, they had to label pictures of items that were in the cafe. At the end of the week, for their big writes, the children had to describe the toast including how it looked, smelt and tasted.
In relation to their topic, the children were given an enterprise challenge where they are required to set up their own pop-up cafe. This will take place on Friday 13th February in the dining hall. It will be an opportunity for parents to come and to buy a range of cafe food that their children have made. Reception children will work with Mrs Thompson from our own kitchen to learn how to make biscuits, pizza and savoury pastries. These, along with tea, coffee and juice, will be available to buy on the day. The children will write the menus and take the orders.
Please do come and support the Reception children and staff, ready to buy their cafe snacks.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
