Micro-Tyco enables young people to learn and practice fundamental business concepts in a micro-environment. So far over 22,000 participants from Schools to Corporates have been inspired to learn the latest entrepreneurial thinking. By receiving £1 from WildHearts charity and being challenged to grow it into as much money as possible, participants ‘become Entrepreneurs to fund Entrepreneurs’ and receive a deep experiential knowledge of the transformative power of compassionate entrepreneurship.
The Challenge
Micro-Tyco is a team challenge for companies and schools, both junior and senior, that takes place every November and February. On the first of the month, teams are given £1 and challenged to grow it into as much money as possible in four weeks. The short time-scale of Micro-Tyco inspires an entrepreneurial environment that unleashes participant’s latent talents, whilst at the same time fostering creative thinking, resourcefulness and team work. Micro-Tyco also helps pupils to develop their financial, literacy, communication and leadership skills.
Our very own AMAZING School Council members had an immensely busy month planning and implementing many different fund raising ideas for their Micro-Tyco Challenge; events included:
A non-uniform day and lunch break Movie time session on Friday 13th February when combined raised £271.98
Members of the School council sold cakes at break time on Tuesday 24th February and raised £122.10.
Years 5 & 6 took part in Mendi and tattoo art on 26th & 27th February and raised £22.50.
There was a children’s chocolate hamper raffle drawn in assembly on Friday 27th February which raised £74.00.
On the afternoon of Friday 27th February some members of the school council were escorted to our local ASDA store at Cape Hill to help customers to pack their bags. They were complimented on numerous occasions by customers and till operators alike for their helpfulness, care and consideration and for impeccable manners! The money raised on the afternoon was £114.26 and a further £25.49 was donated after they had left.
During the last week of the challenge tickets were sold for a Family Raffle. All of the school community were encouraged to buy tickets. Lots of GREAT prizes were donated including: A family holiday to Devon for 6 people, an iPad, a meal for two, children’s luxury toys, shopping vouchers, cash prizes and much more… The winning tickets were drawn during a special assembly which was held on Friday 6th March, where the school council were joined by members of the ASDA team, Ash Lewis (local entrepreneur) and Mr Donaldson from Shireland Collegiate Academy. The money raised from the selling of the tickets was £366.50.
There was also a donation of £20.00 given to the School Council towards their fundraising efforts. After all of these events a grand total of £1,016.83 was raised and there is still money coming in!
Members of our School council really have been and continue to be a credit to our school – well done all!
