As part of their class project, children and staff from Year 1 have been very busy learning about vegetables. They have been looking at how vegetables grow, what differences there are between fruit and vegetables and how to prepare vegetables safely. In addition to this, the children have been investigating how they can be more innovative using vegetables.
The children decided they would like to make their own soup at school using some of the vegetables which they have been learning about. Lessons were structured around the preparation and cooking of vegetables, how to use kitchen equipment safely and how their homemade soup could be packaged and sold.
One child had even begun to think ‘outside the box’ by stating that a very famous tomato soup was being made using a fruit not a vegetable! 1H contacted the company and very promptly received an e-mail back. This stated that the young man who had raised the issue was very clever indeed!
The children had great fun researching this topic and their ‘Super Soup’ was made, packaged and sold at the ‘Grand Year 1 Super Soup Sale’ on Friday 8th February. The sale raised £51.41, all proceeds have been put towards school funds.
Well done to Year 1 for being creative and using their enterprising skills!
