On Tuesday 19th May VPA’s ‘Great Garden’ will have its official opening by Mr Morrish (Executive Principal) and Mrs Dhesi (Head of School). A number of people from school and within the community will be invited to take part in our very special ‘Great Garden Party’ launch.
The theme for our event is ‘Jamasian’ which depicts a mixture of two leading cultures represented within our school – Jamaican and Asian. The theme of ‘Jamasian’ allows for us to closely connect to the blend of our community.
The idea of the garden party is about engaging with the various parts of the community through planting/growing and food. We were awarded £10,000 from ‘Awards for All’ last year; to develop the community growing space and engage with different parts of the community.
Fresh food will be cooked on the outdoor oven; which has been sponsored by Ballot Street Spice. Our community gardener will work with guests to do some planting and share with them the developments that have been happening recently and guests from Holly Lodge High School will be on hand to entertain us with music by their steel band.
Following the ‘Great Garden Party’, during the month of June, there will also be some workshops led by a guest from the Royal Horticultural Society to help run some sessions with children and parents to further develop their growing skills.
*Attendance to the Great Garden party is by invitation ONLY. Therefore, be prompt in returning your reply slip to the school office*
