World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is observed in more than 100 countries around the globe. It is a partnership of publishers, booksellers and interested parties who work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all, especially children.
Here at VPA we will be incorporating ‘World Book Day’ into a week of exciting activities for the children to participate in and enjoy, beginning on Monday 4th March.
Claire Bell an author of children’s books will be introducing the week’s activities during an assembly on Monday morning. She will also be working with children in Years 4 and 5 to create an anthology of stories which will be collated into a book to be published and sold on the Amazon website (more details to follow). All other year groups will be taking part in various other activities which will include; creating stories and short plays, audio stories and eBooks much of which will be undertaken using creative thinking and ICT skills.
All children will be given a World Book Day voucher and some children will have the opportunity to exchange their voucher for a book from Waterstones book Shop at Birmingham University!
We very much look forward to reading and listening to some fabulous stories.
