On Thursday 6th February, the School Council went to visit the Mayor at the Mayor’s Parlour in Oldbury. The children were given the opportunity to ask questions and to learn more about what is involved in being the Mayor of Sandwell. The School Council members were able to see the similarities and differences in being a School Council member; compared to being the local Mayor.

The children dressed up in the Lord Mayor’s robe and learned about the history of past and present protocol. They also visited the council chambers where decisions affecting the local community are made. They discovered that the Mayor, as well as the School Council, is very supportive of fundraising for the local community.

The Mayor’s council is run very similarly to our own school council at Victoria Park, as each member is encouraged to voice their own opinion and then to make a collective decision.

The school council at VPA encourages us all to work independently but also as part of a team.
