RH children and staff visited Smethwick library this week; so that the children could experience, first hand, what a library is like and what they could use it for. Staff invited parents along too. The children listened to stories, looked at different types of books and were shown how to borrow books – using the new machine. Some of the parents joined the library and teachers were also given a class library card. The children chose a book each to bring back to school. Class RE is hoping to take children to the library next week weather permitting.

The visit was linked to Reception’s last topic ‘a real world’, and it is hoped that this will encourage more parents to read with their children thus helping to improve reception children’s reading results.
