In collaboration with The WAVES study research team and Aston Villa Football Club, Year 2 are taking part in the Villa Vitality programme. It’s aim is to teach children about living a healthy lifestyle and focusing on being physically active and eating a healthy diet. During this programme, children have the opportunity to visit Aston Villa Football Club twice to learn about leading a healthy life and have a visit from an Aston Villa coach to reinforce the lessons they have learned.

On 13th February we had a fabulous day touring the grounds. We learned about what footballers eat and why healthy eating is so important. We enjoyed looking at the ‘Eatwell plate’ and planning a meal for a footballer making sure that the players have enough vitamins and carbohydrates to enable them to play for the duration of a 90 minute match. We took part in a physical activity session run by the Aston Villa coaches and had a tour of the changing rooms and football pitch. We were given a set of challenges and a project to work on for our next visit.

On 26th March an Aston Villa coach will visit VPA and will help us to focus on getting active by teaching us some new skills. They will also help us with our challenges and project.

A final visit will be made to Villa Park on 22nd April, where we will take part in cooking healthy food to take away in the Food Academy Kitchen. We will be trying out the Club’s dance mats and recording our own group project in the Aston Villa Radio Recording Studio.

Fun times ahead!
