Victoria Park’s netball team came together approximately a year ago when the children were still in year 4. Miss Johnston is the team’s coach and thoroughly enjoys teaching the younger ones how to play the game effectively; this all stems from Miss Johnston’s school and college years – where she was an avid player herself.

The team played a friendly match against St Philips School last year in the summer here at Victoria Park Academy. They had a lot of support from parents, teachers and other children; the score was 8:7 to us. We just about won the match and Miss Johnston was extremely proud of the children especially as the team was made up of children from Year 4 and St Philips sent children that were from Years 5 and 6!

All league matches are played at Shireland School. The first match of this league was against John Bosco. We lost 3:2. The team’s second match was against St Philips and once again, we managed to beat them 1:0. It began to rain heavily just before the last quarter and it was decided that play should not be continued.

Recently we played against Abbey Junior and we won 3:1 but according to our coach, it really should have been 4:1 as Abbey Junior’s goal keeper scored an own goal!

At the end of each match, players are nominated as player of the match.  A number of children have already been nominated, look out for future nominations.

The team used to practise/train every Thursday after school, but this is now match night so the team are looking for a more convenient time to train.

Congratulations to the team so far and we wish you every success in your future matches.
