Some Year 5 (and 6) children recently entered an indoor Athletics Festival competition. This involved children from the schools in the ‘Cluster Schools’ in our local community. The competition took place at Shireland Collegiate Academy and although we came fourth in the competition, our budding athletes showed true spirit and determination – continually giving their best efforts!

As part of Year 5’s Spring 1 NICER Challenge, the children had a visit from Christine Rowntree who shared information about Traidcraft.

Traidcraft fights poverty through trade, helping people in developing countries to transform their lives. With the aid of their supporters, the organisation has been the UK’s leading fair trade organisation for more than 30 years. They run effective development programmes, sell a great range of fair trade products and campaign hard to bring about trade justice.

Year 5 looked at ways in which they could implement and run a healthy tuck shop. The children also looked at ways that they could help the organisation to improve working conditions and pay around the world.

The children in Years 4 and 5 have recently been preparing for the future and how to become successful Peer Mentors and Tutors – the children have undergone some rigorous, yet exciting training. Dawn Gilderoy has been putting the children through their paces! UFA (University of the First Age) is a National Education Charity. The UFA network unlocks the potential of young people. The organisation inspires and equips young people to become confident individuals, successful learners and responsible leaders.
